been a long time
its saturday evening. what did i do today? nothing. slept in, kind of laid low for the first day all semester... and now i'm on the internet so i feel like a blog update is in order.
lets go all the way back to wednesday - wednesday night was of course my night to cook. and my plan was to make mousse au chocolat for dessert, but after consulting the recipe, and our supply of kitchen supplies, they didn't quite match up. so after class, went over to somerfields, bought some bangers (cumberland sausage), which happened to be 2-for-1, and got some mash too, and then i got some chocolate chip cookie mix (just add water) for our first ever home-cooked dessert. anyways, peeled the potatos with courtney, cooked the sausage on the stove, all first time experiences for me, but it was fun. and it was definitely a hit too! everybody seemed to like it, and it felt really good to be done for the week. after din on wednesday we just hung out.
actually, further back in time - tuesday afternoon - went to the national gallery (not to be confused with the national portrait gallery).. it was pretty cool, lots of old paintings and history which was very interesting.
wednesday during the day for my other art history class we went to the victoria and albert museum, which was great. this is more than just art, it has alot of historical furniture and inventions and stuff from the victorian age. its jsut kind of rough to have to walk around the museum with a coat and backpack on taking notes for 3 hours. but its a nice break from the regular classroom.
and whenever i get in a bad mood, or i have to wake up early, all i have to do is tell myself that i'm in london, and i automatically change moods and life is great. but from time to time i do get homesick and i miss everyone in syracuse alot!
so - on to thursday. thursday i got up and went to the faraday house to work on a group project - the one about the signage in faraday. we worked for a while, and then went right to the jack the ripper walk from there. on the tube tho, during rush hour traffic mind you, there was this family, they were indian, and they brought a baby carriage on the tube! and even worse, the kid was playing with a pen! he was like feeling how sharp it was, and he was flalling it around with his hands and it was kind of scary cuz i thought he was going to poke an eye out.
the jack the ripper walk - it was supposed to be me, patrick and lindsey from the house, but patrick has started his internship and he didnt make it to the meeting point on time. so for the first 1/2 hour of the event, i was on the phone with him trying to direct him thru the streets of london to make it up with the group. the walk was great, we walked around thru the streets of london, and the guide was great- he had a great voice. he brought a stool to stand on, and he made sure everyone could hear, and he just tod the story of jack the ripper as we walked thru the places that he actually walked, and we saw the actual buildings and streets that he killed the girls on. it was very graphic at times, but it was a really fun. and afterwards i talked to the people in charge and asked if there was any way that patrick could still get his 5 pounds deposit back and they said yes. he deserved it for a great attempt at finding the group.
oh yea, after the ripper walk, while taking the tube home, there was a guy playing some sort of rythmical musical instrument, one of the licensed guys. he was great, so i started video taping him with my camera, and i was kind of out of the way, in the corner, and all of a sudden, when he sees me, he stops playing, looks right at me, and points to his little box implying that he wanted me to pay him. let me tell you, it was pretty embarassing, so i walked over and dropped a few pence in. not the only one that i have paid. while going to the v&a museum, there was a guy playing 'tequila' on the saxophone, and it was a great rendition, so i gave him a couple pence too.
more to come later - i can't hog the one internet connection!
