identity theft, bad french toast, & a 39 point loss
so if you haven't heard, its been a rough couple of days for myself.
to make things worse, today added some new twists... not only for me, but for courtney.
today she went to the bank to check how much money she had left in her account, and low and behold, its way below the amount that she expected!
she just got off the phone with hsbc to find out that the london underground transportation has charged her 4 times more than they had the right to - causing a drop in her funds by over 300 dollars! the london underground! the tube! its unbelievable! anyway - hsbc is being very kind and everything seems to be under control at the moment.
as for myself, its been a rough couple of days, seeming like nothing has been going my way. i got a not-so-good reaction in class when i showed some designs, then i got a not-so-good grade on a paper for another class on wednesday. wednesday night was ash wednesday (the one bright spot was church - it was 1/2 hour, very quick, got the ashes, everything was grand), and of course, my night to cook. meatless.. what was i going to cook? ahh! french toast - the only issue being that i've never cooked french toast before. (i know, people say its easy - its really not, it only becomes easy when you do it multiple times). it took me 3 hours total to make 18 pieces of semi-cooked/semi-burnt french toast for the house. maple syrup? the guy in the store said it tasted JUST like it - but it didn't. it tasted like honey. and had the consistency of it too. so it was a rough evening. it was rough for everyone else too, who had to eat it. several reports of upset stomachs, fortunately not turning into anything horrible.
wednesday night i had to update the jerk magazine website for the march issue (jerkmag.net).. so of course there were the usual problems associated with that.
thursday i went to faraday house early in the morning to work on the designs that everyone hated. i was there ALL day! except for when i decided that i needed to take a certain picture of big ben for the magazine cover... only i didn't have my camera with me. so i took the tube back to the house - got my camera, took the tube accross london to westminster to take a specific picture of big ben - and my battery died. right on the street. poor me. i wasted 1.5 hours of my life, of my valuable time, all for nothing!
the silver lining to my troubles was thursday night. max and andrew, my roomates, went to berlin for the weekend, and thursday was max's day to cook! so we struggled, and then decided that everyone could use a nice meal out, at a restaurant. while some people just went to the pub, me and courtney took this opportunity to go to this place called cafe uno, which is on edgware (near madonna's place), and looks very good. courtney had mushroom ravioli, and i had a dish of chicken, bacon, cream sauce, penne, peas, yellow peppers and red peppers - topped with parmigian cheese. it was quite delish! for dessert we had chocolate cake which was excellent. it was a good warm-up for italy (which is a week from monday), because the menu was in italian with english subtitles!
my official lent has started also - here's what its going to be: its complicated, but i'm going to:
a. make an effort to stop biting my nails/picking my nails/cracking my knuckles
b. stop being lazy. which consists of:
i. i will not sleep past 9 for the remainder of the semester. the semester is too short to waste sleeping. minor exceptions do apply.
ii. i will concentrate hard not to hit the snooze button a million times in the morning.
iii. i will run at least 2 times a week.
i've already started to run, and wake up early, and hit less of the snooze, and i've stopped messing with my fingers, so i guess i'm doing good.
so last night i came home and did work, i'm not going to lie. and tonight i'm doing work also, and tomorrow i will do more work. it feels all too wrong to be STRESSED out on a friday night! but i have alot to do for next week, which is midterm week (scary).
last night i was excited to lsiten to the su game.. i was all ready with my computer at midnight, and then i found out that the game didn't start till 2 am! so me, being the cockeyed opptimist that i am, went to bed thinking "oh, su will be fine, depaul sucks, i'm going to bed and tomorrow i'll find out about the win." where did we go wrong? a 39 point loss?!? are you kidding me? i don't even want to talk about it. its pathetic, horrible, unbelievable... a horrible way to wake up.
to make things worse, i was supposed to meet francesco, the design prof, at 920, and he didn't show up till 10! thats 40 more minutes i could have slept in, when i woke up at 820. but the chat ended up being good, and he likes my new direction i'm headed, so thats good.
well, i'm bout to hit the sheets. tomorrow is study time, and work time, with a little church, and if i'm as lucky as my roomate is making it seem i will be, we'll be having fettucini alfredo for dinner tomorrow night. something to look forward to.
and hopefully the bad luck will end, and this next week will be good!
*i hate to complain, i'm not complaining, i hate complainers. i was just following thru on my duty to tell you, the blogee, how things are going.
-cheers
