brighton!
this isn't part of spring break, but yesterday (friday) we went too the school field trip to brighton! which is a little town directly south of london, and it was great!
we left the school at 9 again, like usual. 2 and a half hour bus ride got us there at 11:30 and we had a nice walking tour of the city before we got cut loose to do our own exploring. 4 people from the house went, it was me, courtney, lindsey, and michelle. the city was wicked cool. i say it was wicked cool because it reminded me heavily of cape cod, which was great. it was a quaint little town, kind of touristy, but there were small streets, brick streets, lots of pubs, very cool. plus it has a lot of history, too much to remember, but basically its been around for a long time, and its been the home of pirates and war heros and kings and queens and everybody really. famous for its fish and chips (which was handy considering it was a friday during lent), and its brighton rock. they call it rock but its sticks of hard candy. it was pretty funny because the tour guide kept saying stuff like "you guys want some rock?" and "there's a great little place to get some rock right over there" but he didn't know (and you might not either) that the word rock refers to crack in today's society. don't ask how i know, but i do, and it made it funny. anyways, the city has always been a haven for londoners to go and relax by the sea and do all the things you do by the ocean, because its only an hour away by train. the kings and queens and princes and princesses even went, and built this "pavilion." they call it a pavilion, but its really a palace. i was expecting it to have no walls, like the pavilions i know and love, but it was a real building. a real fancy building. we got to tour the royal pavilion and it was very interesting. the architecture of the building was reminiscent of the taj-mahal. you'll see, it was really unique, but at the time it was trendy. the inside was gorgeous - no pictures alloud tho. there were lots of oriental influences inside, and lots of palm trees which was always nice to see. it wasn't too extraordinarlily big tho, which was interesting. there were also really nice gardens outside of the building. this reminds me: off topic: there's a park near our house with a lake in it, and you can rent boats on the lake for 4 pounds. its going to get done! it made me really excited to hear about that. a lake in themiddle of london! ok back to brighton: there was one major pier, that had all the shops and stuff on it. an arcade, an amusment park type thing. people were drawing similarities to coney island. there was another pier down the way that had been burned in a fire, and the ruins are still there. it looked pretty mysterious. the beach there was totally made out of rocks! no sand whatsoever! it was ridiculous! i wouldn't want to walk around on the rocks. it was hard enough to walk with shoes on. but the water was really cold, i put my hand in, and thats it. the wether there was pretty nice, its getting nicer in general, but it was cloudy there. today, in fact, its getting up to 60! but it might rain. so, i've got some pictures... here goes:
