last week... the real story

well folks, i'm terribly sorry that i didn't get a good "real-time" blog post in last week, but it seemed like in my free time i was takin another chunk out of the rome blog... so now that i have the time here, i'll get into it.

last week mon-weds school week was busy. lots of work to be done, and it all got done, so weds felt good to finally get out of class and be able to relax. weds is, of course, my night to cook, and i had a great plan of action last week. meatball subs, yea? i think it was a great idea. where it went wrong, no one really knows. all we know is that the meatballs turned into meat-mush, which turned into the meatiest meat sauce that you've ever tasted. it would be a lie to say that it tasted bad, it was great, just not what we expected. i think it may have been the fact that there were 36 meatballs in one pan, and they all squashed each other when they were in the mushy stage. anyways, i just turned it into sauce that night, and put it on spaghetti for everyone. next day it tasted great on a roll.

also got a haircut weds night! it was gettin a little long, so i had courtney shave it down a little. well, alot. i also had her stop half way so i could see what i looked like with a mohawk. here it is... i'm trying to look tough:

thursday was a day of work. it gets a little interesting here. stupid group meeting, we had agreed to meet at 10, then this one girl in the group sends out an email weds night at 1 am saying 'lets meet at 11, k?' which she was shocked to find out that me and my roomate didn't check our email again to read it before we woke up at 9 and went to school. that type of crap is so annoying, it totally threw off my chi. i was in a bad mood for the rest of the meeting, until i left, and it was a nice day out, and i got to go exploring.

went to covent garden, to browse at sneakers, because i'm kind of int he market. covent garden is a great shopping area, with a great street of shoe stores. i went to a place called 'size?' and found some great kicks for a great price but they DIDN'T HAVE MY SIZE!! how annoying is that? to make a long story short tho, i don't have new sneaks. still keeping my eye out. they're expensive!

thursday night on a whim, me and courtney took the tube to st. pauls and the river thames to check it out all lit up. the millenium bridge goes from the tate modern over the river right to st pauls, and its all lit up nice and pretty at night. it was a fun night, relaxing and eye-pleasing. no money spent either. except for the cadburry egg mcflurry. i didn't bring my camera but i'll be back there at night, no doubt.

friday was a great day. in the afternoon we went to hyde park for a walk (me and courtney). the park is great. lots and lots of huge green grassy fields with trees and sidewalks. there's a lake called the serpentine, with tons of swans and ducks and stuff. there's also lots of hidden treasures in the park, like a princess diana memorial, and a peter pan statue. pretty cool. there's an art gallery called the serpentine, and just like every museum in london, its free. they choose one artist to focus on, who does crazy stuff. right now they have elsworth kelly, who does really really abstract stuff, its modern. just painted canvases, solid color. it was cool tho.

then we went to kensignton palace, which is in hyde park. k.p. is where diana lived ever since she was married, up until she died. its an impressive mansion with a huge garden, known as the kensignton gardens. the gate is famous because when diana died, thats where everyone stacked up flowers and pictures and cards. it was pretty neat to see it in person. we didn't tour it because it was pretty expensive, but we plan on either touring buckingham or kensignton. you couldn't even go into the section of the hosue that diana lived in, so that would have been dissappointing i think. the one thing about this place was the surprising lack of tourists! i would have thought that the palace and gardens would have been a huge attraction, but there weren't really more people there than there were in the rest of the park. maybe because it was a friday, but still it was surprising.

from there, we wandered around the gardens, it was a gorgeous day, the park is great, i bet its awesome in the summer. it was jumpin for a grey day in april. we went to a place right near kensignton palace called the orangery (i loved the name) for our first session of afternoon tea! when in london, do as the londoners, yea? the experience was AWESOME! i had a little english b-fast tea with milk and sugar, with some cheese scones. they give you a whole pitcher, so the process is long, and very enjoyable. courtney had the full afternoon tea experience, with cucumber and cream cheese sandwhiches, scones, tea, and cake. i didn't have that kind of money. but the orangery is great. here's some pics from the park, the palace, the garden, and tea. OH YEA, 1 thing, there were tables of women BREAST FEEDING out in the open at the orangery. kind of made it skeezy. kind of disgusting. i didn't take any pictures tho. sorry. but here are some pics from the day:

The park:

Peter Pan:

Diana's memorial... its a circular river type thing, very cool. some rapids, some smooth areas, the grass is really nice in the middle.

Here's the palace with the gates. you can see the lack of tourists. you can also check out the shortness of my hair. crazy-short. but i'm getting used to it. also - a little sample of the gardens...

and here's the pics from the orangery, right next to the palace and gardens:

friday night we went out and about, we we were trying to go to the world famous club called "fabric" just for the experience, but the line to get in was mega long. so we didn't really end up going anywhere, we just explored the various areas of london at night. it ended up being pretty fun.

saturday during the day, me and courtney went to oxford street just to browse and stuff. we took it easy pretty much, i did a little running, got lost in our neighborhood, but it was fun. went to church at night, really quick again. at night we stayed in and watched garden state, which i forgot was such a sweet movie. the music is so good too. it was fun. here's a shot of oxford street on a busy saturday afternoon:

then sunday, another group meeting, and its at 2pm. i show up early to do some work. 2 oclock rolls by. 215 one person shows up. says 'why are we having this meeting?' and i say '??' and the meeting gets canceled. great. what a wasted few hours. then the rest of the day i did a little work and updated the jerk magazine website finally for the april issue. (check that out). time consuming process but i just wanted to get it done.

tonight i'm headed to the pub. that's it, going to have a pint and research more about pub life.
hopefully i'll be back on my regular blog-update routine. part 3 of spring break should be comign this week too (florence)!

cheers everyone!
