v for vendetta
weekend update:
friday night after we came back from brighton, we went to this bar in picadilly circus called 'waxy o'connor's' and it was an irish bar. its more than a bar, its a restaurant too, and its huge. theres a room with a tree in it, and lots of levels, and staircases, and hidden little nooks to eat or drink in. i guess there's only 4 in the world, and they're all kind of like that, but it was pretty cool. i had a carling beer, which was one of my favs so far.
afterwards we did as the londoners do when they are hungry at night, and we went out for "pound pizza." this is just a slice (pretty big) of pizza that you buy off the street for just one pound. it was really good pizza. side note: they call 'regular' pizza (cheese, sauce) "margherita" style.
saturday i spent cleaning the house and doing work. i was responsible for cleaning the living room, and it looks fantastic now! the goal is to have everyone clean an area of the house and then the whole thing will be cleaned... its working ok so far. but saturday was a beautiful day, until it started raining. it was nearly 60 degrees in the morning, and we had the windows open and it was a great day.
at night on saturday we went to a movie down the street at the odeon theatre. odeon is like regal in the states, they have a monopoly here. we went to see the movie 'v for vendetta' which was a very interesting experience. tickets for the movies are expensive, but the theatres are really nice. its usually 9 pounds, but with the student discount, its 7. so its not tooo bad. but when you buy your tickets you get to pick the actual seat that you want. its assigned seating, and its stadium seating too, on the slant, so everyone can see. we just made it in before the time that was listed for the movie to start, but the previews here were very extensive. the davinci code looks like its going to be my favorite movie EVER. anyways, at the odeon, after the previews, they put on this odeaon screen-saver type thing, that just had the odeon logo going back and forth on the screen, and it would go up to the ceiling, and onto the side walls, and it would get bigger and smaller, etc. and they had this cheesey music playing in the background... and it was THE strangest thing i've ever seen! we didn't know what to do? actually, we weren't sitting in our assigned seats, so we thought they were going to come and kick us out or something. but after 10 minutes of that crap, the real movie started, finally. the movie itself was great -based in london, in the future, its about a radical terrorist trying to make everyone realize that the government is bad, basically. i don't want to ruin it if you're going to see it. but basically, there's alot of scenes that look all too familiar here in london, and it was weird to be watching this world-wide film in the city that it was filmed in. here's some trivia i found out also. there's a shot at the end that takes place near parliament - they could only shoot from 12-4 am, and they could only stop traffic for 4 minutes at a time while shooting the scene. it was crazy to think that they were just a 20 minute ride on the tube away to shoot the movie. but it is a good movie, pretty frightening at times, but the story is interesting. there's lots of politically charged plot lines going thru it, alot of people make connections to present day US. it was really fun to go the movie..
today is mother's day in the uk! happy mother's day to all! only they dont call it mothers day, they call it "mothering sunday" which is funny. i celebrated by working at faraday house all day! yaaay!
anyways - i'm heading to bed. its late, and i'm tired. i typed this without my contacts in, so if there are mistakes, i appologize.
cheers, goodnight!
