london stinks of piss....

don't worry, you'll understand in a little bit. unless you scroll down and look at the pictures, but that would ruin the fun.

busy weekend! not in terms of work, but in terms of knocking stuff off the ol' to do list in london. thursday was pretty relaxing. slept in for the first time in a while! i knew i wanted to sleep in because friday i was planning on getting up mega early. thursday was basically a lay-low day, but it was beautiful. spent a little time on the rooftop and in the backyard just hangin out, doing a little bit of work. it felt really good. thursday night however, on the brink of spending the entire day in the house i agreed to go to a designer's bar called freud's. went there for like an hour, it wasn't too designerly, but i had a very intriguing drink. it was the cheapest on the menu, so i knew i'd like it. loved the name - scrumpy jack, and it came in a bottle, and it was an english cider. and it was much better tasting than beer, it tasted like apple juice. little bit of a kick to it, but only one wasn't bad at all. but i think its a good drink. there's quite a few of ciders available here. frueds:

thursday night everyone else kind of went out beyond freuds, but i went home to get to sleep, because on friday me and courtney woke up at the crack of dawn, 6:45, to check out the antiques market in bermondsey. supposedly world famous. it opens at 4 am, so i think we were considered late, but there wasn't that much stuff there! lots of silver tho. it was kind of dissappointing, because we got up so early. i was expecting alot more, liek furniture and stuff. but it was all little kinck-knacks. so after the bust, me and courtney went to get tea at a little shop in bermondsey. bermondsey is outside of the city, outside of zone 1, so its kind of surburban, so it was cool to see how it is out there in the london burbs. the market:

we took the tube from there all the way up to green park, which is the stop for buckingham palace. green park was nice because there were tons of flowers in bloom, and it was beautiful. the thing about the park is that there's a local legend that one of the kings used to cut flowers out of it and give them to his mistress, so the queen had all of the flower beds taken out of green park. so now, the flowers jsut grow willy-nilly everywhere, which is kind of cool. it turned into a beautifully sunny day when we went to the park and the palace, which was great news.

at buckingham it costs incredible amounts of pounds to take a tour so we were just lucky to get to see the changing of the guard. actually, we were really lucky! because we were thinking that it was only at 11, and it was only the changing of the queens life guards, which are on horseback, and since the market sucked we were there way earlier than 11, we thought we would have to wait forever. but we got to see the dudes with the hats change, and i got a lot of video of that and stuff, it was really nice. we hung out at the fountain by the palace a little bit and read the newspaper and admired the beautiful day for a little bit before we went to the next stop on the tour. here's the guard who is on duty next to the real guard on duty. with a huge machine gun ready to blow the brains out of anyone who comes close:

the sweet lawn:

harrod's department store in knighstbridge. considered the best store in europe, possibly the whole world. soooooo expensive. ridiculous. knightsbridge is the expensive, ritzy part of london, we figured out. the store was crazy expensive, but there was a cafe in the middle of it that had reasonable prices. got myself a jacket potato with beans and a salad for not too much. oh and a cookie. it was tasty. we explored the store with no intentions to buy anything, and we didn't, so it was just fun to see stuff that sells for thousands of pounds. we took the bus home from there to see more of london, and because its healthier than riding the tube. we made the decision to ride the bus more than the tube in the next few weeks just to get more out of the city. we need to take advantage of our time here.

due to the erly wake up call, a nap was in order. then we went to faraday house for the teleconference, which was pretty lame, except getting to see beth and ken. other than that, it was pretty much a waste of time. and the free donuts and pizza were sweet too. it was a fun experience tho, but we were being pumped up to be talking infront of a huge audience and in shemin.

friday night we stayed in and hung out, it was fun. saturday we knocked more off the london list. during the day, just for fun we went to notting hill where there are lots of vintage, retro shops. basically second hand stores. but its fun, the stuff looks good because that is the style these days. went with courtney, lindsey, and max, and we went in a few stores. some people got some stuff, courtney got a SMASHING dress, and a brilliant top, and i found a cool t shirt for 5 pounds. its from india, so its got these elephants on the shirt, and a bunch of indian writing... its really cool. oh, then we met up with patrick, and he found this unbelievable pin-stripe suit for only 25 pounds! its in gorgeous condition and it fits him perfectly! might have been the find of the day, but it could have been courtneys dress too. here's a shirt i almsot bought but it was expensive:

and here's patrick's suit.

palm sunday at our church was interesting. no procession, we just met in the foyer of the church for the blessing of the palms. it was fun to do the part where there are different people talking, because everyone had british accents. this reminds me, on wednesday our teacher was going on an on in our art history class about jesus, and the possibility of his blood line still being out there and stuff, which is part of the whole da vinci code story. well, apparently theres a book thats just like davinci code, only its better, andit was written in '75, so it was before dan brown wrote da vinci code. its called 'the holy blood, the holy grail' because thats the basis of the argument that jesus's blood line is still around - the french word 'sangreal' has been broken up to mean 'holy grail' meaning the cup that mary used to collect jesus's blood. however, if you put the space in the word 'sangreal' in a different place, it becomes 'holy blood' or something like that. anyways, its an unbelievable story, i cant remember how most of it goes, but without even reading the book, i am recommending it, because if its anything like the story my teacher told us, its going to be interesting.

so saturday night was exciting. we finally went to the london ice bar, which is the bar that is totally made out of ice, even the cups. you're only allowed in for 40 minutes, and they give you these parka-like capes to wear inside because its so cold. we had to make reservations, because they only open it up at certain times to let people in. it was an awesome experience! it was kind of expensive, but they gave you one free drink, and thats all everybody ever has because refills are jsut as expensive. but its so cool to have everything made out of ice. its like an amusement park ride or something, because they line you up, let you in and then 40 minutes later they turn off the music and kick you out. interestingly enough, there's also an ice hotel, where even the beds are made of ice. but as far as the bar goes, there's only a couple in the world, so i thought the experience was worth the money.

here's someone getting their cape put on in the line.. i love this pic

this morning, sunday, me, courtney, patrick and lindsey went on a walking tour of london caled 'the beatles magical mystery tour' which went around to all the beatles spots in london, ending at abbey road. the tour guide was a huge beatles but, he has books, and he has won lots of competitions, and he has met them many times, so he knew so much about them, that it was almways interesting! we went to some of their offices, places they played, places where they met, and stuff, it was great. the guys voice was really great, he was hardcore british. we went to abbey road, and everyone was doing the famous picture in the zebra crossing (cross walk). some guy, sounded like he was from italy, recruited me and patrick to be the 3rd and 4th members of the band when we walked accross the street. anyways, it was a really busy intersection, and you could tell everyone hated the people crossing the street there, because the way a zebra crossing works is the pedestrian just walks out when they have a small clearing, and the cars have to stop. its crazy how it works, but it dos, unbelievable. the tour was really fun. here's the group on abbey road, and the speaker talking outside the studio, and then, in the middle of the tour we got interrupted by a pack of vespa riders.

then today i went to spittafield's market, which is one of the cooler ones. its all artisans and artists and people who make their own jewelry and clothes and stuff. very cool things here, and food from all over. i found a great deal on this dutch army shirt, for only 5 pounds, and its so thick i plan to wear it as a coat. its pretty sweet, right up my alley. but the market itself is a fun time. its kind of touristy tho, so you only really need to go once before you've seen everything. a good time.

and tonight we're getting another roomate - krista's friend from long island. (greeeaat). max's sister left, so we're sitting at 9, and michelle went to prague for the weekend, so its 8 now with andrew's bro. when krista's friend comes, and michelle comes it will be up to 10 before andrew's bro leaves on tuesday. crazy. all i know is, i'm not giving up my bed for nobody.

thats all for now,
cheers!
jamie
